Hi, I’m Jiyeon,
a senior studying Industrial and Product Design with a minor in Human Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University.
A background in fine arts and sculpture make aesthetics, craft, and conceptual meaning crucial to my practice. As a designer, I aim to give beautiful form to empathetic and effective solutions. The implicit goal is to design products that not only look, but also do good: establish meaningful impact that endures beyond the physical. I’m really interested in:
- Using materials in novel yet sensitive, tasteful ways
- The intersection between modern manufacturing capabilities and the idiosyncratic nature of the hand-made
- How designed objects and their narratives can help us relate to one another more empathetically
Currently, I’m extending my time at Telos Health as an Industrial Design Intern, helping design a first-of-its-kind medical robot expected to dramatically expand access to stroke care. Previously, I was at Petit Pli, an innovative material technology company based in London best known for creating the sustainable fashion paragon Clothes that Grow.
CMU Design wrote a piece about the IDSA Student Merit Award.
