Heirloom Knife


Knife made from an old file. Turning scrap metal that’s reached the end of its life into an object that requires a ritual of maintenance and care and “grows with you”; therefore making it something that will actually increase in sentimental value over time. A study in sustainable design and circular material flow.

The Service

Designed in junction to a collaborative analysis and project with Liz McDonough, Patricia Yu, and Ian Lippincott. We designed a service in which old files and saw blades are collected from local woodshops and repurposed into bespoke knives.
